Pigs with Pencils

Portfolio Gallery

These images are mostly from my professional career as an illustrator in a number of industries. I’ve always worked as a studio illustrator in the corporate environment and because of that, most of these images are owned by other people. I have been granted the courtesy of being able to show them to you.

Some of the images are actually still mine. They were created before, after, or in between studio jobs. One thing you are sure to notice, the style is very similar. Unlike some artists I’ve been fortunate enough to get hired for my personal vision. Unfortunately, once they are done with that look–I’m pretty much done with my employment.

Concept Art Gallery

These are sketchbook works. They are on my list of things to develop. Some are entire projects in themselves, like a book–you should be able to tell which ones because they are in a series. Others are just images that stand alone. They might be a nice spot illustration or perhaps a full page. I could fill this gallery to capacity with the number of sketch books and loose papers in my possession after 15 years  as a working illustrator. We always have things in mind that we never get to do.

Tutorial Gallery

This gallery is going to be the most puzzling to my fellow professionals and yet the most interesting one to those who are not. The images in this gallery are work in progress shots during of the process of painting tutorials. Its really the equivalent of showing you paint by number pictures in a way. These are tutorials I’ve obtained through the purchase of magazines. There are designed and created by other professionals in order to teach other artists new techniques. I am not showing you the technique, the tools, or the set up. I’m sharing with you some save points and my particular finish.

What the tutorial gallery is:

  • A Temporary Exhibit.
  • A series of save points during my process.
  • My finished version. Don’t assume anything.

What the tutorial gallery is not:

  • I am not sharing the technique with you, don’t ask.
  • I am not redistributing tutorial files. You can find that info in the ratings section.
  • I am not showing you the steps or instructions or screenshots of the tutorial.
  • I am only showing you my final version, which may or may not match the tutorial’s.

Tutorial Ratings:

One thing I have learned from all of this is that not all tutorials are the same in quality. Just as in real life, some people are just better at explaining how to do something. I am not a novice painter, so I can’t really rate these for a beginner, but I intend to let you know exactly what I thought about the tutorial and rate it for you. I expect this to be a very interesting section of this blog. I hope you enjoy it.
